I have to admit that I was not exactly thrilled to be traveling to Brussels. I decided to stay there for 2 days before heading to Amsterdam since it was on the way. I was glad that I went. I had one of the best meals in Brussels. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the restaurant but I know that it was close to the Grand Place and Hubert Gallery. I had their national dish called waterzooi (fish stew with potatoes), french fries (of course), unfiltered white ale, mussels and waffles. It was a bit scary at first because the streets were dark and narrow but since there were a lot of other tourists, I felt a little better. Have I mentioned that their chocolates were decadent. I had to buy an extra luggage just so I can carry all of my chocolates (this became a challenge when I took the train back to London – 2 luggage and a handbag were not easy to lug around by yourself). Neuhaus is by the far the best I’ve ever had.
It was disappointing to know, though, that some locals don’t think that Brussels have anything good to offer. My taxi driver asked me why I chose to stay in Brussels for a holiday. He said that most Belgians stay as far away as possible when they do on holidays. It’s too bad they can’t see the beauty that I saw in the 2 days that I was there.
I will definitely go back, but I’ll make sure I’ll go to Bruges as well.
