| Monet’s Waterlilies |
I have always been enchanted with Monet’s artworks. When I saw his Waterlilies paintings at the L’Orangerie for the first time years ago, I promised myself that I would visit his house and see his inspiration for myself. The art-groupie that I am did just that on my last holiday. I bought my train ticket at Gare St. Lazare and made my way to Giverny.
Giverny is a tranquil town northwest of Paris. Upon arriving at Giverny, I understood why Monet became so inspired by this place. Not only was the place bursting with flora, but also extremely beautiful. When I finally arrived at the green gates of Maison Monet, I noticed the entire house was painted pink. Pink house and green everything else. Who knew those two colors go well together? I sure as hell didn’t.
I was a little disappointed when I reached the waterlily pond. Spring came a little late in France and the waterlilies haven’t bloomed yet when I was there. Nevertheless, the entire estate was still enchanting. A melange of tulips, roses, cherry blossoms, and other flowers surrounded the place.
His house is such an artsy-fartsy house (in a good way, of course). Each room has a theme (my dream). His drawing room was impressive. His artworks hung all over the room and it’s a surreal feeling to be in the middle of it. To be in the room where Monet spent most of time creating some of the world’s lauded artworks was overwhelming for me. It gave me goosebumps!

Should you find yourself planning a Parisian getaway, it’s not a bad idea to add Giverny to your itinerary. It’s only short train ride from Paris. Its beauty and history make it a destination for anyone who wants to escape the bustle in Paris.
