Winter in London

For those who know me, I have a not-so subtle obsession with all thing English. If only England’s immigration process is not so complex, I would move there in a heartbeat. It’s no coincidence that my favorite city in the whole world (well, second to San Francisco) is London. It’s a great excuse to visit England every year!

Last winter was no exception. My sister, friend, and I spent a marvelous two-and-a-half weeks in England and Scotland. We stayed in London for a few days before going to Edinburgh. We got very lucky because even though it was super cold, it didn’t snow or rain in London. We were able to meander without any real issue.

Apart from having afternoon tea at Sketch (see my earlier post here) in SoHo, we also walked around the South Bank, marveled at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and had lunch at one of our favorite spots, Borough Market. I mentioned my love for this place here.

I tell myself every year that I will not spend anymore time in Piccadilly Circus as it gets so crowded and crazed. However, last winter, the lure of shopping was just irresistible. Our favorite shopping spots here are Carnaby St and Liberty (this gorgeous tudor-revival building that is also department store). The surrounding buildings are not bad to look at either (like the Swan & Edgar Ltd. building and the London Pavilion).

Let’s not forget to mention my favorite book shop in London, Hatchard’s.

It’s the oldest book shop in London.

Like all of our other trips, this one was an absolute food-centric. For starters, our lunch at the Borough Market was a melange of flavors. We had some donuts from Bread Ahead, porchetta sandwich from Roast Hog, and Lentil and rice bowl from Kashari. We also had some of the best little balls of heaven called Merveilleux (it’s a sandwich of meringue with whipped cream) from this place called Aux Merveilleux de Fred in South Kensington.

How about this sexy ramen from Shoryu in SoHo?

Or this scrumptious sundae from Fortnum and Mason?
